1. October, 2021Weekly Buzz

It’s been an angelic week at school with the students learning about Archangels during Wednesday’s Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, and then learning about tomorrow’s Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels during school mass this morning. Throughout the week, I get to visit every classroom and enjoy the children’s angelic ways, so I hope they’re the same way for you at home!

As we begin October, the students are at the midpoint of the first quarter, and parents and teachers should have a good idea of how each student is doing in a particular class, but if you have any questions or concerns at this point I urge you to contact the teachers directly. Today marks the final day of our baseline Scantron testing for the year, so the next step is that teachers will review this data for each student and work to cover any identified gaps in knowledge. You will receive these reports during conferences in November.

We had two fire drills in September and more will be held monthly for the remainder of the school year but we also must conduct safety drills including shelter in place and evacuation drills throughout the year. The teachers will have more training for these drills and procedures next week, and we will counsel the students on these drills beforehand plus inform parents in advance. Please contact me if you have any questions about these requirements.

Our Greater Love support for the St. Camillus Food Pantry resumes next week with a tag day on Thursday, and going forward the first Thursday of most months is reserved for this tag day. Later in October, Greater Love will run a coat drive to help our neighbors prepare for colder weather. Thank you for your continued support of all their efforts and for modeling compassion to the students.

The School Advisory Board held its first meeting of the year on Wednesday and will be working on our 2022-2027 strategic plan throughout this year. A membership list is attached to this Buzz and you are welcome to reach out to any of them to learn more about the SAB. If you’re interested in supporting the strategic planning process as a committee member, please email me or Mr. Collins, the SAB chair, with a summary of your background so we can put the best team together.

Welcome to October, a month filled with many perfect days and wonderful weekends. Let’s make it a great one, and let’s keep our guardian angels close by to guide us always!

In His service,

Mr. Ewanciw
