15. October, 2021Weekly Buzz

We’ve had another great week of school and I hope you see that reflected on the faces of your children each night at home.  It’s pretty evident to me every morning when I see their smiles whether they’re walking to school or being dropped off.  The students are happy to greet the teachers and I can attest that the classrooms are engaging and great work is being done!  As I wrote last week, sometimes it takes years to see the results of the many jobs we do, so it’s important to enjoy these memories in the making.

Honoring Tony Zanger

This morning I had the pleasure to attend the Catholic Business Network of Montgomery Country Hall of Fame breakfast as our former CYO coach and commissioner Tony Zanger was inducted.  He is the sixth member of our community to be so honored, and it was great to see someone recognized for their commitment to our children.  It’s also important to share that Tony said he felt humbled and was simply doing the job that was in front of him.  I think that is wise advice for our children and us adults as well.  Let’s keep doing what we must to ensure our students are well-formed by the time they leave our halls, whether by coaching CYO, volunteering at school or parish events, or encouraging the children to grow in confidence and faith through other opportunities and challenges that they encounter.  Thank you, Tony, for all you have done and for the example set.

8th Grade Adventures

Among other highlights this week were a team-building trip on Tuesday to Terrapin Adventures for our 8th graders, and, in keeping with the turtle theme, today our kindergartners learned about the lives of turtles with our newest teaching assistant, Mrs. Goldthorpe, whose lesson featured her son’s box turtles Sheldon and Tiny Tim!

To wrap up the week, it looks like we will be able to enjoy another wonderful Friday Night on the Field this evening, so please come back later for Snack Shack dining and treats plus the bonus of fellowship with other school families!

Looking ahead, we will host the Class of 1971’s 50th reunion tomorrow, the Chipotle Dine-Out night is next Tuesday, the Scarecrow Festival is next Saturday, the Parish Fall Festival is next Sunday, the 24th, and the Greater Love Coat Drive runs through next week, so please support it if you can.  There will be many more events like these in the months ahead, and if you’ve not jumped in yet to do the job that presents itself, keep checking the HSA and school SignUp Genius pages for more opportunities.

I will see many of you on the field later, and I hope you all have a glorious weekend!

In His service,

Mr. Ewanciw

Answering the Call and Getting Credit!

The HSA needs you to volunteer now:

1. HSA Table at Fall Festival (1 tier)- Sunday, October 24, show the community why you love SBS!  We are in need of 1-2 additional volunteers to man the HSA information table during the Fall Festival.  You will meet and greet attendees throughout the event and share fun experiences you have had being a part of this community.

2. Bingo Chair (2 tiers)- This is a great event for the entire family!  We will be planning a Bingo night in January of 2022- may sound far away but will be here before you know it.  Don’t worry — this has been a favorite event for years so previous chairs are available for guidance.

3.  Winter Parent Social Chairs (2 tiers)- 2 spots available.  Help plan a fun night out for the parents- close to home- in the school hall.  This was a favorite back in the day, and we look forward to bringing it back.

4.  Sneaker Drive Chair (2 tiers)- 2 spots available.  This is a new fundraiser for us.  Help us make it a great one and start a new tradition.  Email Meg Lewis for more information.  mlewis@saintbernadetteschool.org
