23. October, 2021Weekly Buzz

I’ve spent most of the past week on a spiritual retreat with other Catholic school principals from the Archdiocese, and as a group we devoted much prayer to the students and families of all our schools.  Fr. Scott Woods, who spent time at Saint Bernadette as a young priest, guided our retreat.  In focusing on our vocation of guiding students as educators, Fr. Woods stressed the importance of giving thanks daily, and of doing the work placed before us.  One line that clicked with me was that behind every saint, there is a past, and in front of every sinner, there is a future.  It sort of echoes Saint Bernadette’s plea of, “I must become a saint!”  In other words, our work continues!

There will be many opportunities to guide our saints in training throughout the year, and with November around the corner, we will resume our saint house activities with All Saints Day on November 1.  Look for more information to follow as we step up our service commitment in the classrooms.  We’ve been helping others already in many ways through Greater Love, and this past week we raised more funds to support pediatric brain cancer research and our coat drive.  Thank you to all the students and families for your multiple donations to these tag days!

We have a shortened week ahead of us because of the Archdiocese Teacher Collaboration Day so there will be no school for students on Friday, October 29.  But before then, don’t forget the Scarecrow Festival this morning and the Parish Fall Festival tomorrow.  The organizing team includes several school parents that have a day of fun in store for you and your family, so please drop by.  We also will host a school open house Sunday morning starting at 10:00.  As always, share this with any of your friends who might be interested in our rigorous, faith-filled education for their children.  Contact Erin Fridley at efridley@saintbernadetteschool.org if you want us to reach out to anyone directly.  That’s it for now and I look forward to seeing you at the Fall Festival!

In His service,

Mr. Ewanciw
