What is photosynthesis (PS)?

• The process of converting sunlight E into stored chemical E

o Chemical E is stored in the glucose molecule which is made thru a chemical reaction btw CO2 and H2O

o Process occurs in plants, algae and some bacteria

• In eukaryotes, PS occurs in chloroplasts, which contain chlorophyll

o Chlorophyll pigment makes plants green and is able to absorb sunlight E

light E + 6CO2 + 6H2O —–> C6H12O6 + 6O2
