Same or Different Species?

Closely related species, especially those in the same genus, can mate with each other, but this may only occur rarely in animals. What do you think are two key differences (one physical and one behavioral) between these similar species of fish that prevent males of each species from fertilizing the eggs of females of the other species?

Before answering, consider the following – spawning in shad is when several males and one female congregate in the same area and the female releases thousands of eggs into the water while the males release thousands of sperm cells at the same time.
