Elemenary grades are filled with significant social, emotional, and academic growth in all students. A large focus is the development of basic skills and strategies to help students become independent, confident readers. Students will practice guided reading and will meet with a teacher in a small group three-four times a week. Differentiated instruction as well as the use of learning centers and hands-on activities allows all students to be successful. Students foster their social development by focusing their actions and words around the six character traits of respect, responsibility, fairness, citizenship, trustworthiness, and caring. Students participate in various cross- curricular activities centered on chosen themes.
These years focus on self-discipline and time management. Students are bridging the gap from elementary school to middle school. Throughout the course of this year, students will gradually take control of their own learning by balancing their homework, extracurricular activities and taking responsibility for all of their actions while switching classes beginning in fourth grade.
Students are taught and encouraged to look at fiction and nonfiction texts in a different light. By allowing students to explore and think about texts they have a connection to in a different light allows the students to grow as readers in a whole new way. Students converse about their books and their compositions with classmates to explore their newly developing investigation skills.
Each of the Saint Bernadette Middle School Grades has four differentiated levels for Math.
