  • action F is equal to the reaction F, but exerted in opposite directions
  • action and reaction F’s are applied to different objects
  • example: action F is you pushing on the wall; the reaction F is the wall pushing on you
  • you and the wall are two different objects

  • Draw and label all free-body diagrams
  • Identify all action and reaction forces
  • Question: Since the gravitational pull of the Earth is exerting a force on you why don’t you accelerate down into the center of the earth? Use the 3rd law in words and in a free body diagram to explain your answer.
