Hello Incoming 8th Graders,

This year I will be doing summer reading a bit differently. I have attached a series of ten short reading passages on various subjects – both fiction and non-fiction. Each passage has ten questions. You can pace yourself through the summer but make sure you come back in the fall with all ten completed! Keep the following points in mind if you want a good grade – this will be your first test score of the year!

  • Answers must be written neatly
  • Sentences must start with a capital letter and must end with the appropriate punctuation
  • You must RESTATE the question in your answer! For example, if this is your question:

“Why did Ann choose the spotted puppy?”

WRONG – Because it was cute. (this is not a sentence and does not restate the question)

RIGHT – Ann chose the spotted puppy because it was cute. (this is a complete sentence and restates the question)

Have a great summer. I will be planning lots of new and exciting activities for us to do next year!

Mrs. Ingram
